New Companion Announced & Series 7 News!

Posted by SonicR on March 21, 2012 at 3:00 AM

UPDATE!!

Jenna-Louise Coleman has been officially confrmed as the next Doctor Who companion.

Lead writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, says: “It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl. She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS.

“It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that’s all you’re getting for now. Who she’s playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy meets girl.”

Congratulations Jenna on your new role, and I hope you live up to all Whovians' expectations!

On other series 7 news, the daleks and weeping angels have both been confirmed to feature. Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will leave in the fifth episode encounter with the weeping angels, whilst Jenna-Louise's character will join in the Christmas Special. The series will be split over two years, with six this year, and 8 in 2013. Steven Moffat again teased about the fate of Amy and Rory, saying that 'not everyone will get out alive in the final encounter with the weeping angels. I mean it!'

The BBC will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce the identity of Matt Smith's new co-star. A BBC source has revealed that the new assistant is 'pretty', but 'not a household name'.

The Sun newspaper claims that former Emmerdale actress Jenna-Louise Coleman has landed the role, and that her character will be an off-worlder. Let the speculation here begin!

The producers have taken the easy way out: Young, Pretty & relatively Unknown.

Would have been a bigger challenge to find a Mature Intelligent & Witty Lady i.e. someone like Catherine Tate.
But the result would be more satisfactory & credible.

I like the idea of unknown. Much prefer to have no preconceived ideas about actors/ actresses who are cast as The doctor or his companions.
I'm surprised Catherine Tate got another chance after the pretty ordinary Christmas Special she was in, but it definantely did pay off.

not so happy about the split season though! As long as Aunty plays it close to the BBC like last season I will be happy

I second that...it's so hard to avoid spoilers.
