The only way I can think he survived was he made it back to his TARDIS after him and Missy had their shootout and altered his history therein ...as for why his turned....well Missy never existed , so its back to their usual long running tit for tat

Oh. I like that theory! Much less complicated than my idea- which was that Missy was never actually the Master
i believe he was referring to what happens when you die in those remarks.

Time is wibbly wobbly and timey wimey. Could this be the Master after John Simm but before Missy?
I'd prefer to find out who or what is the Timeless Child that was teased in series 11. Looks like we might find out this season.

I wonder if this Master is from between Missy and the Harold Saxon version - Missy said she wasn't sure if she was the next one. My other theory is that it is again another stolen body (perhaps a stolen Time Lord body), like how he stole Tremas' body and that of Bruce the paramedic (before trying to steal the Doctor's).
