Don't give him ideas.  He might use Homeland Security troops to round 'em up.  Another use for Guantanemo Bay.  :)

According to Fairfax’s Michael Pascoe the government is facing Financial Reasons why it needs to tackle Climate Change.

“The climate bombshell the politicians didn’t touch”

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority aka APRA has become involved in the debate.

Will Turnbull & Co pay attention now that big money is involved?

Or will Tory ideology prevail?   :/

The number of international students coming to Australia surged to record levels last year and there are hopes the political instability unleashed by Donald Trump and Brexit will help lure even more foreign students to the country.

Thank you Mr Trump for boosting the number of Fee Paying Students coming to Oz.

I wonder what Ms Hanson and her cronies will have to say about it.  :/

As long as the students have a good English communication skills.  Many foreign students who study in Australian universities have poor English writing and verbal skills, and are unable to answer verbal questions from lecturers because they don't understand the question. Unfortunately, university administrations have lowered entry standards for overseas students over the years, or seemingly ignored the students' poor Englsih communication abilities, in order to attract more students.  More students means more income for the universities. The outcome is that academics have to lower the quality of the courses they are presenting and be more lenient in their marking, otherwise the failure rate would be too high.  When there are high failure rates, the university administration says that the academic is being too tough with his/her assessment. It is also unfair to students who have good English communication because they are attending simplified courses to cater for students with poor Englsih skills.

I agree with your comments Tardis. With the level of literacy and numeracy as it is here I'm surprised anyone would want to come and study here. Both have deteriorated markedly over the years even with many tertiary educated people, and if some of these people are teaching they are passing on their own poor grammar and spelling, as I have witnessed. The news of the change in the school curriculum is the best education news I have heard in a long time.

The LNP has treated the university sector  as a business when it is vital national infrastructure and should exist to train Australians first with foreign students providing a bit of extra revenue.

If the Libs last much longer our universities will be completely privatised and we will have a US style system where only students with rich parents get in.

Cabinet ministers lash Tony Abbott's destabilisation as 'self-indulgent and destructive'

Looks like Abbott’s attack on Turnbull has back fired on him.

Never mind the reader's comments, Mattias Corman summed it up perfectly

“self-indulgent” and “deliberately destructive” intervention.

The Libs almost lost the last election because of Abbott's policies and they will lose the next one if they go back to them.

Not that I would be upset about the Libs losing the next election.

The highest-profile opponent of Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s deadly war on drugs has been arrested – on charges of drug trafficking.

The arrest of Senator Leila de Lima, had been announced on Thursday, outraging her supporters and human rights activists, who said the government had manufactured drug trafficking charges to silence her criticism of Duterte and intimidate others.

The 57-year-old lawyer, who has spent nearly a decade trying to link Duterte to death squads that have allegedly killed thousands of people, could be jailed for life if she is found guilty of the charges.

Sounds like a stitch-up job to me.

How long before tries this tactic on his opponents ?

The Dear old BBC is becoming politically correct in its old age, getting sensitive about a Fawlty Towers episode it has re-broadcast for years.

The BBC is just being silly about this.

All they need to do is issue a language warning at the start of the show and stop worrying about who they are offending.

Seeking to destroy Obamacare, Donald Trump admits healthcare is 'so complicated'

US President Donald Trump is on a mission to replace his predecessor's signature healthcare policy, but he is finding being in government not as easy as making grand promises on the campaign trail.

"Nobody knew that healthcare could be so complicated," he reportedly told a meeting of the National Governors Association on Monday.

"I have to tell you, it's an unbelievably complex subject," Trump said.

Trump is seeking support from the nation's governors for changes to Obamacare, which extended health insurance to 20 million Americans.

At the same time as trying to cut Healthcare spending, Trump is increasing Defence Spending.

He’s really got his priorities sort hasn’t he ………… NOT!

Fast-food outlets such as McDonald’s, KFC and Hungry Jack’s will no longer be able to bring foreign workers into Australia on 457 visas to work in their stores.

I thought that 457 Visas were for “Skilled” migrants.

Flipping burgers or dishing up chips does not require complex skills !
