Outspoken backbencher George Christensen has fired an extraordinary broadside at senior government ministers - including his party leader, Barnaby Joyce - over an apparent reluctance to act on reforms to Australia's racial discrimination laws.

In another sign of the internal ructions over section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act, Mr Christensen said failure to repeal or at least amend the law would betray the values of the Coalition and amount to a "fundamental breach of faith with our base".

It is obvious that Christensen is feeling the pressure from One Nation in his electorate.

When a pollie resorts to the Race Card you know he’s desperate.   :/

He has to resort to a war of words now that he no longer has a whip.  ;)

The robot that takes your job should pay taxes says Bill Gates.

I agree with him, what do you think ?

He has a point to a degree.  Howver, as we've discussed earlier, automation also creates jobs ... people who design, build, install and maintain robots, design the software, etc., all of whom pay tax.  Presumably, automation also improves the profite margin of companies which, in theory, should also result in the company paying more tax.

Yes I agree with some of what you say, but again I think the jobs created are mainly part time and more jobs are lost than created resulting in a net loss of consumer spending and therefore offsets the theoretical benefits of automation.

Consumers drive the economy and if they don't have money to spend then businesses don't get an income. They only way to solve this is to re-direct profits from companies to consumers by income tax cuts to consumers and tax increases for business.

I think, though, that rather than the jobs you are alluding to becoming part-time, they are more likely to be contractual.  Therefore, rather than being tied to one company, the contractors would provide their services to a number of companies, thus working full-time.  The difference is, there would be greater work opportunities for skilled workers (who earn more and pay more tax) than for unskilled workers (who are more likely to become unemployed).  It's what to do with the unskilled worker that is the problem.  Retraining and welfare payments are a cost to the taxpayer, as our health costs associated with unemployment.  If there is a need to tax robots, it's probably for the payment of those costs.

Yes I agree with Bill's robot tax.

That might make employers think twice before they chuck workers onto the street just to save a few bucks.

As for CEO's inflated bonus payments, that's another story.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has slapped down Pauline Hanson for showering praise on Russian strongman Vladimir Putin and likening the federal government's child vaccination programs to a "dictatorship".

Issuing rare criticism of the One Nation leader, Mr Turnbull said Mr Putin's Russia was responsible for the "shocking international crime" of shooting down the MH17 airliner – killing 298 people, including 38 Australian citizens – and was not worthy of the Queensland senator's admiration.

It's about time that Turnbull called out Hanson over her bullshit policies.

I couldn't agree more Rumpy. People who do not have their children vaccinated put every other child at risk, some adults too.

... and climate change.  But Trunbull is unlikely to call her out on that one because most of his own party agrees with Hanson and Tinfoil.

For those interested in the technicalities and economics of our power grid, here is a good discussion.

This (rather long) article was written about 9 months ago, but it is quite a revealing analysis of Trump's mental state:

I’ll summarise it.

Donald Trump is barking mad and talks shit!

Unfortunately some misguided people fell for his delusional rantings and voted for him.

I suppose she is just doing what she was appointed to do.  The government was always going to appoint someone to be the head of a razor gang.  It's not a pleasant job to have - you're always going to be criticised no matter what you do to cut costs.  We should be directing our anger at the government, rather than the hack who they appointed.

I heard Michelle Guthrie on RN Drive tonight, frankly she didn't sound like she is enjoying the job.

Ms Guthrie's knowledge of ABC culture seems to be very limited.

She came across as a bean-counter going through the motions.

Despite his limitations, Mark Scott was a 100 times better manager.
