Interesting article in the SMH by Ross Gittins about the industry of lobbying in Canberra. “ The ugly side of politics we rarely hear about “ http://www.smh.com.au/comment/the-ugly-side-of-politics-we-rarely-hear-about-20170529-gwfyqb.html  | |

Very good article that. I reckon the Rudd/Gillard government made it;'s biggest mistake by announcing the mining tax beforehand and inviting an attack by the mining lobby before the election. They should have announced it early in their term and it would have been part of the furniture in three years time and a non issue.

The times they are a changing in Ireland. Leo Varadkar, gay son of Indian immigrant, to be next Irish PM. As well as becoming Ireland’s first gay prime minister, Varadkar, 38, will also become the country’s youngest leader, and the first from an ethnic minority background. His position will be confirmed later this month when parliament resumes after a break. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jun/02/leo-varadkar-becomes-irelands-prime-minister-elect

We should have a competition for the best joke about a gay, Indian Irish PM.

'Get over yourself': former New Zealand PM tells Australian politicians to move on. John Key says it’s a ‘bit sad’ when politicians ‘feel as though they have got to constantly be commentating’ He talking about you Tony Abbott, Mark Latham and Kevin Rudd. Â

Coal dinosaurs arguing against the Finkel review clearly don't understand it. Guardian Australia writer Michael Slezak puts Tony Abbott back in Jurassic Park. Â

Hopeless lot of idiots, they can't even accept a report that they commissioned. Nothing will be done. There was an absolutely disgusting response by Turnbull in Question Time to a suggestion by Shorten that they work together on the Finkle Report. Turnbull doesn't even have the dignity to accept bi-partisanshipo when it's offered to him. He's a disgrace and doesn't deserve to be PM.

'What's the deal with Asians?' Red Symons under fire over controversial interview. ABC Radio has gone into delayed damage control following presenter Red Symons' offensive remarks to a fellow broadcaster. The former Hey Hey It's Saturday star, who hosts ABC Radio Melbourne's Breakfast slot, came under fire over an interview with ABC Radio podcaster Beverley Wang, in which he asked the presenter if she was "yellow" and "What's the deal with Asians?". I’ve listened to a segment of this broadcast and I wouldn’t call it blatantly racist. It was stupid attempt at humour and totally tasteless, No doubt about it. You can hear that Beverley Wang was mildly amused by Red’s silly questions. Listen to it and tell us what you think.

A bit silly. I thought he was trying to ask questions that he thought the average bogan Aussie would ask. A bit of devil's advocacy perhaps.

Peter Dutton is using citizenship laws to campaign for Liberal leadership, Labor says. Labor has accused the immigration minister, Peter Dutton, of using changes to Australia’s citizenship laws as a campaign for the Liberal leadership and has confirmed it will oppose the package. The Labor caucus on Tuesday morning signed off on a recommendation to block the government’s citizenship changes, which the shadow minister for citizenship and multiculturalism, Tony Burke, described as a “massive overreach”. I agree with them, Dutton’s changes require migrants passing a University Leave English test that many Australian born people would fail. This is Peter Dutton trying to look macho & tough. Â
