Authorities are investigating the killing and public dumping of three Platypuses, two of which were beheaded, near the Murray River on the border of New South Wales and Victoria. What kind of sicko does this? How could they get enjoyment from killing such a harmless animal? Yes, indeed, an extremely sick act of cruelty. Just a correction, though. The platypus is not harmless. It has a spur that can evemonate a predator or a human. The venom is not lethal to humans, but it can have long-term effects. It can cause partial paralysis of the affected area of the body, and excruciating pain that can last several weeks or months. | |

How disgusting, to do such a cruel thing to innocent animals. I do hope the perpetrator/s are caught and punished. Unfortunately such people never seem to get the maximum sentence, just a slap on the wrist. | |

Well, I'm not sure that the eagle spotted him until it was quite a way down. The eagle is moving its head in all directions initially, probably to get its bearings first, and searching for the trainer. The wings are outstretched for quite some time, meaning the bird was soaring to an altitude where it could see its trainer. Once it had reached that altitude, the eagle folded its wings into the side of its body and dived towards the trainer. It's really quite amazing. | |

Yes, pet cats (and dogs) can be quite amazing when finding their way "home". Not as spectacular as the news link above, but still amazing, is the story of my family's pet cat when I was a child. We had a house full of pets at the time, but this cat was a bit of a handful, so my parents decided to give it to a kind elderly lady who could afford to devote a lot of attention to it and in return have some animal companionship. We did not know the lady personally before then, she was recommended by our local vet as someone who was in need of companionship and who would give the cat a good home. Three months after the lady took possession of the cat, we were invited over for afternoon tea, mostly because the lady wanted to demonstrate to us that the cat was being looked after properly and had settled into her new home, which was about 15 km away from our home. Five days after our visit, the cat turned up on our doorstep, its paws bleeding from the long journey it had made between the two homes. The elderly lady explained that the cat went missing the day after our visit, so it obviously went searching for us. How it found us, I have no idea, but I have not ceased to be amazed by this epic journey. We ended up keeping our cat (which stayed with us for the rest of its life, about another 8 years) and we organised for the elderly lady to find another pet cat. | |
