Interesting musing on 12's regeneration Tardis001. You have obviously put a lot of thought into it. It would make a great episode and tie up some loose ends which the Moff seems very keen to do. He has form viz the McGann to Hurt then to Eccleston webisode additions to the canon. A bit of a housekeeper is the Moff - ultimately likes to keep things tidy even if the route he chooses is a little interminable at times, at least for my taste. I think you are onto something with the Susan references - she must make some form of appearance at some point and the Bill connection is a good one. They have certainly put out plenty of hints with the express references to Bill being gay and even referring to herself as the Doctors granddaughter to her housemates. It will be interesting to see how this all ties together. And as for the piano music? Its all rather intriguing but for the musicians amongst you attatched is a link to the original Ron Grainer title music which was written for piano all those years ago...and other more modern scores too. https://www.scribd.com/doc/13547532/Doctor-Who-Theme-Original-Piano-Sheet

Thanks SJ4E. I wish I could read music! Another intriguing aspect to Series 10, is the Doctor's age. At least twice in Series 10, he's mentioned that he's 2,000 years old. Yet in Series 9 he was trapped in the castle for over 4 billion years. Is it because Clara wiped his memory of her and so he does not remember anything of that time? Or is there something more to it? SJ4E alerted us to the booking of the Diner for filming part of the Christmas special in July. So, it seems likely that Clara returns too. The Impossible Girl, who looks after each incarnation of the Doctor. It seems likely that she will be there to help save Twelve, but also to make sure that Thirteen completes his (assuming it will be Kris Marshall) regeneration okay. I'm tempted to say that Bill will fly off in Clara's TARDIS at the end, but I still like the idea that she is left abandoned on Earth by Thirteen so that she can stay with her girlfriend (unless Clara or Me is the girlfriend, in which case, she may join them in the Diner TARDIS).

Oh, I suspect the Moff will bring back as many characters as he can to round out 12's farewell. I would not be at all suprised to see a few fanmiliar faces. (Fanmiliar is a word I just invented due to a mistype but sounds right and for a defintion it would be any character reasonably well known to fans of a particular show - please feel free to use it in the future...) As for the Doctors age, I think time spent in a Confession Dial probably does not count so I an happy with the current 2,000 and to be honest I thought the whole trapped repeating the same thing for 4 billion years was too far fetched even for this show - any sentient being, TimeLords included, would be functionally insane after a few days let alone years...)

I thought Oxygen's plotline was chaotic and confusing. The middle third of the episode was also quite boring, almost failing to keep my attention. I'm not even sure if I liked Nardole in his expanded role, in fact I found him slightly irritating. Though his comments about Velma were amusing. The commentary of capitalism was quite good. The episode took a turn for the better once the Doctor experiences a setback. I enjoyed the shock ending, definitely the best part of the episode. THREE STARS

I've just watched “Oxygen” in summary: Scary but Rushed. The Spacesuit Zombies are not exactly original monsters, they reminded me of Cybermen, especially the sound effects. Other aspects of the production felt recycle too. I rate Oxygen at half points: 2.5 out 5 Photons. P.S. Note to the props department, those space helmets looked really cheap, you can do better. I'm sure that Rove's Whovians will bring that to our attention tonight.

Yes, I agree with your comments, Photon. I would have given it the same score had it not been for the way it ended. It seems that most guest writers are writing one too many scripts. Unless Steven Moffat improves his scripts in the remainder of this. series (and he probably does), then I would say he stayed on for one too many series.

Site Owner Posts: 3410 | I went in with low expectations so I didn't find it disappointing at all. Agree with most of what has been written already. Still not quite sure why Bill didn't actually die. The Doctor's being blind is a great twist though, it will be interesting to see where they go with that. 3 stars

Still not quite sure why Bill didn't actually die. Because she's been paid for a whole series ?

After viewing "Oxygen" for the second time I stand by my first review. I my gut feeling is that the next episode "Extremis" is going to be much more interesting. Don’t know why, call it Whovian instinct.

Agreed SM. My favourite episode has been 'The Pilot'. The other stories have been good (although a bit familiar at times). I'm looking forward to the long story arc. I hope it's timey-wimey - I will really miss these when Moffat moves on. The reason Bill didn't die was because her spacesuit "battery was too weak" to kill her when the zombies touched/activated it. The doctor knew this but couldn't tell her in case the zombies heard. I'm confused about what state Bill was in - half alive/dead? - while she was a zombie. Agree the doctor being blind is a great twist.

Reference to the fluid Link K57 capsule in yesterday's episode was a nice tribute to the First Doctor. The First Doctor pretended that the fluid link capsule was low on mercury, which he maintained was essential for the TARDIS to function properly. However, this was just a trick because he used it as an excuse to stay on Skaro and explore the Dalek City. The Twelfth Doctor also tricked Nardole into thinking that the TARDIS could not travel throughout time and space with the fluid link capsule.

Yes, Lightspeed is correct in explaining why Bill did not die. My understanding is that the people inside the suits weren't zombies. They were just dead and the suits were programmed to move and make basic decisions themselves. I think Bill was just unconcious - the electrical current she received from the suit was enough to knock her out, but not enough to kill her.

The only interesting twist in Oxygen was the parody of capitalism where The Company owns and controls the essentials of life. If we don't stop privatisation in this country, we will end up like that one day.

Thank you Comrade Rumpole. Seriously, it’s a shame that the message of Oxygen was probably lost on a lot of people because of the sloppy production of that episode.

Mmm. I must have watched a different episode than you lot because I loved it! I liked the pace of the plot and it was a new concept because unlike Silence in the Library, the suits were the animators and not the dead bodies themselves, Pearl Mackie put in another excellent performance, the effects were fine to a tea time Family show and the Doctors affliction put a real sting in the tail. I liked how Nardole switched from the clown to the parent and of course we got to see Missy in the trailer! No, imho, that was the best episode yet of the new series. A very solid 4.5 Photon stars from me.
