I'd heard the name George Formby but never had a clue who or what he was. Then, last week he got a reference on QI which led me to this. Bless Steve Fry & his magical researching elf monkeys! There is a more complete youtuber version out there off of a 78 recording but you can find that for yourselves. Meanwhile I can't stop this bloody tune. Be warned, if ever I pass on (might happen) this will be playing as you all try to maintain your composure as they carry the burlap sack of my remains down the aisle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfmAeijj5cM

I loved what he said about the Queen Mum insisting that George Formby sing the correct lyrics at some royal do she was attending. Gotta love the Queen Mum.

My Dad used to sing this song quite often when we travelling. Mum would chuckle and say "Oh, for goodness sake, Mick, just stop it!" It wasn't until we (the children) were older that we understood the references. (As kids, we would just sit in the back of the car and bobble along with the tune.) What great memories!

Reminded me of Stephen Fry on Parky talking about the Queen Mum being shown how to use a TV remote when then first came out. She said it was interesting but said, "Oh, I think it''s easier to ring".

Mention of George Formby took me way back far down memory lane. He was very popular in my teen years, and yes, his tunes were very catchy.

For those that are interested the "K" season has just started in the UK, hopefully it won't take too long to get here, other wise there is always Channel BT!
